Zendala Dare #29

I'm not going to mince words so this will be short and sweet.  I'm tired.  I'm getting sick.  I've been working like crazy.  I'm not even into doing Zentangle.  That's when you know it's bad!  

I plan on resting tomorrow and hope to get to my Zendala done and posted then, I hope you all don't mind, but somehow I think you will get over it.

Week 29 Zendala Dare template

Tangles:  Tweety, Twisted Sista, Ollove, Worms

I wanted to use my new favorite tangle Tweety in this Zendala and I think it worked out perfectly and I think my old standby, Worms, fit in nicely too.  I like the asymmetry of this template, so you know that means that there are probably a few more like this in the works!

Zendala Dare #28

Well its a day of firsts for me.  Today is my first day at a my new paramedic job and my first time doing a blog post at work!  The new company I am working for is very different from my other job.  It's a little slower, I have a house where we wait for calls, and most importantly I get to wear yoga pants when I'm not on calls!  If you don't think that last one is a big deal then you've never spent 24 uncomfortable hours in heavy polyester pants that never seem to fit quite right.  

The slower pace coupled with a permanent station gives me the ability to work on my blog, Zentangle, and watch reality TV that I don't want my husband to know I indulge in!   Don't get me wrong, I still love working at my other paramedic job but this new one is a nice change of pace and hopefully will be a nice adjunct to my nursing school schedule starting January.  

Last week I asked you all to take a guess at what my next "milestone" and would be and I promised a little gift for the winner.  Well, the winning answer, provided by Magda Aurora, was 100,000 page views.  So Magda, I will be contacting you shortly to get your address so I can send out your gift.  

Then I got to thinking.  All the other suggestions were so good that I should acknowledge them all with a giveaway so we will be having giveaways for the following events when they occur:

• The 50th Zendala Dare (I can barely fathom this one)
• When I have a baby (that's a lot of pressure people!)
• 250 followers
• When I have 50 entries on the linky machine within 1 week after the Dare is posted (we are probably pretty close to this one)

This weeks template is pretty straightforward, at least in my opinion.  It has a mix of straight and curved lines so it should appeal to most of you.

Many times I will try to leave some negative space when creating a Zendala but this template would not allow it!  No matter how hard I tried the template kept yelling "No negative space, please not negative space"  Let me tell you something, a talking template is a creepy thing so just do what is says and no one gets hurt.

Zendala Dare #27

Well hi there!  Your back again?  Great, I'm thrilled you came back for some more fun, creativity, torture, or hair pulling fantasticness.  I guess it's all how you look at it and what kind of templates you like!

As usual this week has been busy, busy, busy.  Five days of work this week but luckily the 911 gods were pretty forgiving and things were pretty mellow.  The weather has been cloudy and cool which is heaven for me, especially when I'm working because I hate to be hot.  Just ask my partner Mini!  Last Sunday the husband and I stole away some time and went to the Harvest Fair.  It's like a low key version of our county fair with ALOT of wine tasting.  It's one of the highlights of my year.

The biggest event of the week however, happened today.  I went to orientation for nursing school!  Due to some unforeseen circumstances my life was turned upside down last week and I had to take a hard look at whether or not I would even be able to attend nursing school which starts in January.  I had to make a list of pro's and con's and with a lot of pep talks from my friends, a heart to heart with my mother, and realizing that I have the best husband in the world, I made the decision to continue on and I will be attending school in January.  The logistics won't be easy but I hope that at 1:00 am about 2 years from now I will be writing a post telling you how awesome my graduation party was!  (That's a hint Ben, Mom, Chris, Andrea, Miniature, Debbi, Chandra, Stephanie, Greg, and Margarito, you should help too!)  So what I need from you my faithful readers is a little leeway when this craziness gets underway in January.  I promise to do my best to get you a Zendala Dare every week and you need to promise not kill me when I completely forget to post it on Saturday and it shows up on Sunday instead!

I know, I know.  "There's so many little spaces!"  But if I posted one with big spaces people would complain they are too big.  That's right, it's called a Dare for a reason!  To be honest even I thought this one might have too many little spaces but remember, the template is a suggestion, not a rule.  Do what feels right.  For me, what felt right was to eliminate a line or two this week.  I don't normally do that, but my first version asked for it.  I will probably do a second that doesn't modify the template because the whole time I was working on it I kept coming up with other awesome ideas.  This one turned out to be one of my favorite Zendalas.

Zendala Dare #26 - It's here, it's finally here!

Yes, I am EXCITED!  So excited.  For what you ask?  Well, October of course.  October is by far my favorite month.  October 1st is my anniversary so that always brings back good memories.  October is usually when we really start to see the signs of fall here in wine country.  Here in Sonoma County, the Harvest Fair and all it's delicious wine and food is the first week in October.  But best of all, October contains what I think is by far the best holiday, Halloween!  I love, love, love Halloween.  I decorate the front yard with giant blow ups of ghosts and spiders and mummy's, Oh my!  I have everybody over on Halloween night and make a big batch of chili and cornbread before we take the kiddos out trick or treating.  As much as my husband hates it, every Halloween I go to my local grocery store where they have marked down giant Halloween decorations by 50%, of course I need a new one each year.  My best one so far is the giant inflatable that looks kind of like a snow globe but has a merry go round inside with two ghosts chasing a witch.  Have I mentioned that I really like Halloween?  

One of my best costumes ever!  I made it myself.

But wait!  There's more!  This week I noticed that I now have 200 followers!  Yes, 200!  Can you believe it?  I remember how thrilled I was when I hit 20, but 200?  That number boggles me.  I couldn't just let such a momentous occasion pass without some kind of celebration so of course I decided on a giveaway!

Zendala Dare #26 - It's here, it's finally here!

It's the first Saturday of the month so time to mix it up a little.  To celebrate my favorite season, Fall, and my favorite holiday, Halloween, I thought we would use those two things as prompts for this weeks Dare.  Your Dare for the week is to use the template below and make a Zendala that represents Fall or Halloween or a combination of both if you are so inclined.  You can use tangles, colors, papers, or anything that you can dream up to create an amazing Zendala inspired by the season and/or holiday.  Here's your template:

UPDATE:  So when I said I would post my Zendala's the next day, apparently I meant within the next 6 days!  Sorry for the wait, here they are:

I don't usually use the white gelly pen but I thought it might look good on the orange paper I wanted to use to get a fall look.

Tangles:  Pearlz, Spokes, Candle Glow,
Striping, Allium

I really like the way this turned out but need to remember to use white charcoal to transfer my image next time.  I ended up with some visible graphite that was not to attractive.  I used Striping to make the triangles look like candy corn and Blooming Lace reminded me of spider webs.  I finished it off with Candle Glow because they looked like little ghosts to me.

Then I decided that I had so much free time (yah, right!) that I should make one that was the opposite of the first.

There are a lot of amazing artists out there who do single colored pieces and I am always in awe so I decided it was time for me to step up to the plate.  

This piece has its good and not so good.  A)  I need to use something other than graphite for the transfer.  B) I could have probably chosen a better tangle for the grid in the middle.  I tried to make it less plain by adding Beadlines and I think that was a really bad move.  C)  I learned that I really like using colored microns.  D)  I learned a lot about shading with color.  So overall, I think it was a successful Zendala.
