Winner, winner, winner! We have a winner....and oh yeah, the Diva Challenge!

I want to start by thanking everyone who participated in my Zentangle case giveaway.  It's so nice to meet so many new people in the blog world and to be able to share ideas.  Now onto the moment you have all been waiting for, the winner of the giveaway (as chosen randomly by my husband) is:

Debby High

Congratulations Debby!  As soon as my friend Su completes your custom zipper pull I will be sending out your new Zentangle case.

Now onto the Diva's 36th challenge.

This week the Diva has returned to us in all of her challenge splendor.  I loved all the guest contributors but I love Laura's style as well so I was eagerly waiting to see what she had in store for us.  This week we had to use the new official tangle Assunta.

Tangles:  Socc, Assunta

When I looked at the directions for Assunta I thought "No problem, I got this" but once I got started I found this tangle more difficult than I anticipated.  I was having a hard time getting my teardrops consistent and the spacing was challenging but luckily I soon realized that Assunta is very forgiving.  I wanted it to have a sprawling, free form feel but due to it's somewhat geometric nature it ended up a little more rigid than I would like.  I noticed that Assunta also seems to get lost when filled with another tangle or at least that how it looks to me.  Even though I am very pleased with this attempt I'm going to keep working with Assunta to see if I can improve on the points I have mentioned.  Oh no, another excuse to tangle!

Now for something totally off the subject but totally amazing!  I am relatively new to the blogging world so I had not heard about this until today.  I was talking to a friend who knows my love for both food and crafts and she asked if I had seen foodgawker.com and craftgawker.com.  For those who don't know, these sites pull pictures from blogs and centralize them in one place so you can quickly scan to see if anything catches your eye and then with a click it will take you to that blog for further investigation.  You can check their homepage each day for a variety of topics or search specifics.  There are also two other sites call dwellinggawker.com and weddinggawker.com.  I have been exploring for about 2 hours tonight and have already found so many cool blogs.  Check it out.

Diva Challenge #35

This week has been a whirlwind (friends wedding, jewelry making, a special Zentangle project and oh yeah, work, work, work)  but I finally found a little time to post this weeks challenge.  Better late than never!

This weeks challenge was designed by guest contributor Margaret Bremner, CZT who's blog Enthusiastic Artist is always a source of inspiration.  I had alot of fun playing with this challenge.  I decided to do a light inside tile with a dark background and then reverse that on my second.  I think they turned out great if I do say so myself!

Tangles:  Printemps, Skeins, Btl Joos,

Tangles:  Mooka, Socc

Don't forget, there is still time to have a chance to win the Zentangle travel case with custom keychain by entering my giveaway.  As my mother would say "Someone has to win, why not you?".

Opposites attract

I loved this weeks Diva Challenge by guest contributor Christina of stArt.  I decided to make another one using a straight string, in this case squares, and curvy tangles.  I'm really pleased with the result.

Tangles:  Buttercup, Crescent Moon, Skeins,
Printemps, Hollibaugh, Keeko, Socc, Tipple

A little note about my giveaway:  The deadline to enter the giveaway is Wednesday, August 21.  I will be out of town until then and will announce the winner when I return on the 22nd.  Good luck!

A small dilemma, a challenge.....and a giveaway!

About a week ago I had finished up my errands early and was waiting to meet my friend Sudahlia for lunch.  I had about a half an hour to kill and thought it would be the perfect time for a little tangling.  I looked in my purse, no Zentangle kit.  I checked the console in my car, no Zentangle kit.  I dug deep in my work bag, no Zentangle kit.  How could this be happening?  I have two kits and had somehow managed to leave both of them at home.  There was only one solution to prevent this from happening again, I must create some more kits!  I wrote about my favorite Zentangle kit set up a few weeks ago.  I have a black one and a pink one.  I decided to toss the pink one, the color is a little obnoxious and it shows all the pen marks I leave behind when I'm using it as a drawing surface.  I got online and ordered up some new cases from Office Depot.  The new cases were here in less than a day and I quickly got to work filling them with pens and tiles.  Ahhh, four, count em, four kits.  I will never be without supplies again!  A new problem quickly arose, however.  The next day I started a tile while waiting at the doctors office.  Later that night I grabbed the Zentangle kit off the table so that I could finish it but there was no tile.  I grabbed a kit from the car, no tile.  I finally found the kit I was looking for in my purse, but by now I was annoyed.

I called my friend Sudahlia the next day to make dinner plans for that evening.  I was telling her about all of my identical kits and how it would be nice if I had a little charm or something on the zipper so I could tell them apart.  I should know better than to mention something like that to her.  Sudahlia is a fabulous beader and showed up at dinner with four fabulous beaded charms, all distinctly different so I can now tell my kits apart.

Left:  Vintage lucite beads and accents
Right: Vintage glass fiber optic bead with a Swarovski
crystal beaded bead

Left:  Leather with glass beads
Right:  Handmade ceramic bead with glass accents

These cases are being discontinued so I ordered a few extras and thought it would be fun to do a giveaway.  To enter do one of the following:

Now onto the challenge!

This week's challenge was brought to us by guest contributor Christina Vandervlist from the blog stART.  The challenge was to use a straight string with curvy tangles, or a curvy string with straight tangles.  I decided to make one of each.  I love how they came out!

I got so into this tile that at the very end I accidentally
added the straight tangle "facets" to my tile.  Oh well.

Tangles:  Pearlz, Huggins, Antidot, Crescent Moon,
Isochor, Facets, Betweed, Msst

My husband calls this one "eggs".  It was harder than I thought
to find so many straight tangles because I usually add a curve
for interest, even to the straight ones!

Tangles:  Rectangles, Florz, Baton, Ahh, Munchin,
Cubine, Apeel, Up and Across

Pendrills a plenty!

I just love this new tangle!  I originally had different plans for this tile but once I got going it just took over and turned into a monotangle.  I love how it came out.

The Diva Challenge #33

I love, love, love the new tangle Pendrills.  I'm always a sucker for the organic tangles and at first glance I wasn't bowled over, but once I got going I loved this tangle.  Thanks Rick and Maria for another great design!

Tangles:  Pendrills, Drupe
